This post is two-fold. It's a message to remember those this holiday season who are less fortunate and it's a little PR for an amazing organization.
This isn't a new find, but none-the-less it is still amazing... even after 22 years! Remember Band Aid? The music group that is. Remember their song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" I bet you are humming it to yourself now. Just in case you forgot the words, here are the lyrics. When you read them (as opposed to listening to the song), you realize how dismal the words and therefore the situation was... is. For example, "And it's a world of dread and fear where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears," "And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom," and "Where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow." However, the words I would like to focus on is an important line, "The greatest gift they'll get this year is life." It reminds me how precious life really is. When you are down on your luck, it's hard to remember this. But it is worth remembering.
The Band Aid song ends with an upbeat repeat of "Feed the world. Let them know it's Christmastime." A pretty important message this time of year. Remember those who are hungry and/or less fortunate. Teach your kids empathy and show them at a young age how to give.
I can't end this post without reminding you of the other group/song that was similar to the Band Aid project. If you are like me, you are thinking, "I know there is another song just like that one. What is it? How did it go?" I won't leave you hanging. It was "We are the World" sung at Live Aid. The concerts were actually a spin off from the success of Band Aid. You know us American's we always have to get our hands on something that is successful world-wide! But hey, I'm not going to knock it when the money is going to an amazing cause.
