Incidently, no we do not live in Arizona where this photo was taken. We are in Minnesota with snow. I just liked the look of the desert warmth!
I hope you are almost ready for your holiday festivities to begin. If not, good luck this weekend!

MediaWise does not bash the use of TV. They acknowledge TV is here to stay and share with us ways to control the use of TV. TV is just one media medium. MediaWise also has a ton of research and information on video games, internet/computer use, and music. You will find amazing, and at times startling, facts and research. However, the site is also filled with great tips and information for parents.
After the holidays, I will share some insights from the website on video games. I think you will find it quite interesting.
What boy doesn't love Spider-Man? And what boy doesn't love Nerf products? Roll the two into one and you've got yourself the perfect gift for that little boy on your list. The Hasbro Nerf Spider-Man vs. Venom Dart Tag is a sure winner. It comes complete with 2 vests, 2 cool glasses (or protective eye gear), 2 dart guns, and 12 darts. Don't worry the darts are light and foamy with tips made of rubber (to stick to the oponents vest).

Many people have an ear for music. I am not one of them. I love music, but I literally faked my way through playing the french horn in 7th grade band class (at least I thought I did, I'm sure the teacher knew I had no idea what I was doing).
Do you have a little one who would do anything to be Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean? Here are a few things to help start him on his way. We just ask that you don't let him get too far into character and stop brushing his teeth.
Now you can hold your very own Project Runway competition with the Designed By You Fashion Studio. (Just don't expect Heidi Klum to show up.) Creative Kidstuff sells this hot-ticket item. The studio features 30 plus pieces, including a velvet mannequin, 4 bolts of fabric, faux fur, sketch book, fabric swatches, satin dress, garment bag and hanger, decorative trims and sewing essentials and accessories.
Red Rody, red Rody, send Charlie right over. Oh, maybe that's Red Rover, red Rover...
Giving is a great feeling. Giving to yourself is just as great! So, don't forget to get pick up a few items just for you this holiday season. (There's no question you deserve it, Mom.) While I was in bed for four days, I memorized the J.Crew catalog... lucky you. Here are a few picks you might not want to pass up.
Immediately after Thanksgiving everyone moves into holiday mode. If you celebrate Christmas, don't forget to bring out your Elf on the Shelf (see my review from last year). If you don't have one, you need to buy one! The little elf enables you to manipulate your children into thinking you can communicate with Santa every night... so they had better be good. Genius.
It's 4:30 pm. The boys are fighting and wearing you down. You find yourself yelling at them in order for them to hear you. They are hungry. You are hungry. And it's been a long day. A typical day, that is.
It's the perfect gift. You can't go wrong when giving a silhouette. It's classic, and now Simply Silhouettes has added a modern twist to the black and white versions. You won't believe all the ideas.
Stationery items
Great gift ideas like jewelry, journals, aprons, and more
Innovative room decor any child would absolutely love, love, love
Wonderful items for the holidays - cards, stamps, address labels, cards and even wrapping paper!
Get a load of all of that, people!
The room decor with the kid jumping, the little princess, and the baseball boy might be my favorites. I can just see those items hanging on any kid's wall. Simply Silouhettes has outdone themselves with some truly unique ideas.
Quick get your order in now for the perfect Christmas present! Something the receiver will cherish for a lifetime.
You can tell I love silhouettes from my silouette logo of Emily & Allyn. Like I said, classic.
Who needs Santa and his elves when you can have your very own Toy Shop in the convenience of your own home? OK, I'll venture to answer my own question. I need Santa. I need him for the sole reason so I can threaten my kids with the almighty, "You had better be good, Santa is watching." What am I going to do when they are old enough to know the truth? That's a whole other post.
The Plasma car is still a hit. Every kid loves it. But this isn't the Plasma car. This is the next popular ride-on in line, the Cheeky Chic Ride-on.
If I were 8 years old again, this is the toy I would be begging for. I think it looks like so much fun. Now, as a parent I am a little more hesitant. I can just see all of my son's friends trying it out, getting crazy, and going smack right into the tree it is attached to. However, I saw one the other day and the owners had a piece of heavy-duty foam on the end of the cord. The zip line just bounced right off and the kid wasn't able to smack his face into that tree. Clever. Now I'm board again, but on one condition. I get to be the first one to try it! Think how fun it would be to fall into raked leaves or a big pile of snow.
Election 2008 is coming. It is now less than a year away. Emily Allyn is preparing for the craziness by introducing not one, but two new designs! This is your sneak peak at the little "guys". They will be available to order online soon! Sign up on our email list if you would like to be the first to know when they are available.
A friend of mine told me about this one, Doodle Dice. I think I'll buy it just because it's fun to say the name! Doodle Dice. It's labeled for kids 6+, but she said her 4-1/2 year old boy is easily catching on to a slightly modified version. Players roll the 6 dice and use them to create the doodles on the playing cards. You can also block opponents and take their cards away (perfect for siblings). The first player to create a doodle from each colored deck, wins!
Flashback. 1986 slumber party. My house. About 1:00 am. Eight screaming girls. Why were we screaming? Well, there were lots of reasons, just ask my dad. Uh oh, another flashback, "Emily, will you be quiet down there?" And it wasn't exactly a polite question as it was a furious demand.
This one is for all ages, however there is a twist from the traditional hide and seek game. I've seen these little safari guys all over this year. It's an award winner from National Parenting Center.
One of my sons loves I Spy books. He can't get enough of them. So, I figure this will make a great gift, I Spy 3D. You've gotta love any "board" game that comes with super fashionable cardboard glasses. By "board" game, I mean tiles. There are 40 tiles. You could place 15 down at once (see above picture). Then you slip on your nifty glasses and the "board" jumps out at you while the objects on the tiles seem to float. What's cool (besides the glasses), is the tiles will always be in different spots, so you can't necessarily remember where all the objects are - like you can in the books. My son will love it!
Think back to when you were growing up. Did you ever go to birthday parties where you had to stick your hand in a brown paper bag and feel for a certain small object? If so, I'm guessing someone we grew up with took that idea and ran with it, bringing it to modern times. The New Touch Game sold at Young Explorers is exactly that idea. For kids, it's actually harder than you might think.
It is officially the end of October and the month for Breast Cancer Awareness. However, as you know awareness shouldn't stop November 1st. The Gal to Gal Foundation recognizes this and they are continuing their efforts to raise a cool million for Stage IV breast cancer patients. I wrote about this group earlier this month. The Foundation walked - virtually - across America and today ended in San Francisco. The group is very dedicated to their goal.
Halloween always brings out millions of little super heroes roaming the streets in search of bad candy. There's Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Superwoman, Flash Gordan, and... oh, I can't possibly remember all of them. If after halloween your little hero still wants to dress up and get the bad guys, Chasing Fireflies carries the cutest capes perfect for the occassion. These super duper capes come with your son's or daughter's initial embroidered on the back - just so Johnny doesn't get his mixed up with cousin Donny's. Plus, they feel more powerful when they know the cape was truly made just for them.
Let your kids carve this virtual pumpkin by vidugiris.com and your kitchen stays nice and clean. The kiddos can enjoy a few minutes of fun by creating a bunch of funny and scary faces on the pumpkin. They could even use this as a templet. Once they create a face they love, make note of it and carve it on to your real pumpkin.
OK, so it's not sandal season anymore. I know, I know. But there is the annual winter vacation we all go on - whether that be physically or mentally! Consider this post "gearing up for your resort-wear."
About a month ago I wrote a post on tooth fairy boxes. Since, I have found some at Chasing Fireflies that are sure winners. First off, they have an unbelievable assortment of tooth holders. You won't believe your eyes.

Are you feeling the urge to give this month to a Breast Cancer Awareness group, but just don't know which one? Here is another possibility. The Breast Cancer Site. You can shop and give at the same time. Your shopping helps fund mammograms for woman in need. There is something for everyone. Seriously. Here are just a few.
Please buy this and don't confine it to your kid's bedroom. It is too much fun and people need to see it. Play. Laugh. Games. Dream. If I saw this on someone's wall, I would think they were a ton of fun. Now don't get me wrong, if your family room has a "don't touch" atmosphere, this would not go. However, if you have play dates often and a specific playroom, that would be a perfect room.
Tired of the Baby Bjorn? Tired of seeing it on every other new mom? Now you can stand out in the crowd because there's something more stylish. Gucci. Yes, Gucci has entered the world of baby carriers. For the Gucci lovers out there, this will make your day.
As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. One of the passions behind Designhergals.com is to raise money for Stage IV breast cancer patients through their Gal to Gal Foundation. This month they are hosting a special virtual walk event. You don't need to fly to a certain city to participate. All you need to do is fire up that internet connection of yours. Chances are, if you are reading this, you've accomplished that step.
I can't keep a plant alive to save my own life. Hence, you will not find any long-term greenery inside my house. And the outside? Well, my husband takes care of most of the outside chores, including the watering. However, I just may have found something to make it possible for me to put a little green inside my home. It is a self-watering flowerpot. How ingenious is this? The vase holds enough water for the plant to need watering only once a week! To know if your plant is getting thirsty, all you need to do is look at the base and see if the water is low. It couldn't be any easier than this, folks.
Every girl throws a tea party or two when they are little - either with friends, parents, or stuffed animals. Djeco makes a Tea Time Set that - as you can see - is absolutely adorable. If you are going to have a tea party, you might as well do it up right! And who doesn't love cake at a tea party? All the essentials are included for a perfect high tea. See you at 4:00.
I wish I would have know about this site 3 years ago. I remember looking for a toddler-sized table and chairs set. I had the darndest time trying to find something cute AND something that my neighbor didn't also have (i.e. the Pottery Barn Kids set). If you are in the same boat now, here is an online store you should check out: Be Creative Kids.
It just keeps getting better and better at Emily Allyn. This week we have many new products rolling out and some favorites returning!
Are you looking for a creative Holiday card this year? Something your friends have never seen? Or are you not even thinking holiday cards yet? OK, I admit I wasn't. But it's time and I have a secret for you. I absolutely love the cards from In a Baby Carriage. The are fabulous to say the least.
My son lost his third tooth the other day. We have a tiny silver keepsake holder lined in velvet he puts it in. The tooth fairy comes, takes the tooth, and hides money under his pillow. I won't say how much because you will judge me for either being too damn cheap or for spoiling my child too much. I think it's a cute box and found a couple like it on Amazon. I searched for tooth fairy on the internet. Let me tell you there are some pretty weird web sites out there selling crap! And get a load of this picture I found. Now that is down right freaky, and gross I might add.
She did it again.
Murphy's Law #572:
If you consider Fall starting when school starts, it's here. Otherwise, it's just around the corner. We must face it, another summer has flown by. However, I have to say fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Not too hot, not too cold. You are ready for a little crisp air (not arctic, just crisp). You are ready to slip those jeans back on and maybe even a comfy sweater.
While we loved our original Pumpkin, we decided to spiff it up (just a tad) to make it look more "pumpkin-like." Here is your sneak peak to what it will look like! The Emily Allyn Pumpkin will be available to order online September 21, 2007 - just in time for Halloween and Thanksgiving!
